'Control Freaks' brings together information from Western science and Christianity in an attempt to explore the ideas that underlie current approaches to intersexuality in Western culture. It asks questions about the nature/culture divide, as doctors police nature, stepping in to fix 'God's mistakes'. In our society genetic males with small penises are occasionally surgically reconstructed into 'females' - For whom? For what ideas? In my assessment white coats and rhetoric lend authority to proceedures which are born of ignorance and fear, and uphold patriarchy and heteronormativity.
