I started working on this project
in 1998, in the context of the debate surrounding the potential
repeal of Clause 28, which restricted the 'promotion of homosexuality'
by Local Government in Britain. The Homophobic Alphabet was
on one level an immediate personal response to the Scottish campaign
against the repeal of the Clause, which was launched by the business
man, Brian Souter at the time.
The illustrations have been shown as self-contained works and as
part of the 'teachers pack' distributed to Edinburgh's primary schools.
Arse bandit, carpet muncher and uphill gardener
have also been produced as screenprinted multiples.
